4 Steps Forward, 3 Steps Back

The Denver Nuggets opened up the 2012-2013 season with 3 straight losses.  They then bounced back with 4 straight wins. After winning 4 straight, they decided to take a few games off and lose 3 more games consecutively.  Next the Nuggets realized they had better get things going in the right direction again and won another 4 straight games.  But, Denver must have forgotten how they won those 4 games in a row and went on to lose another--you guessed it--3 straight games!  Denver now is back even with a record of 9-9 after surviving the Toronto Raptors on Monday night.  This kind of trend must end for the Nuggets if they hope to secure a playoff spot in the top 5 instead of scraping for a bottom seed at the end of the season.  Granted, the Nuggets did lose some tough games on the road which included 2 single-point losses to Golden State and to Utah, but they must find a way to win the close games on the road as their upcoming schedule in December is brutal!  10 of the Nuggets' next 14 games in December are on the road!  The journey starts in Atlanta on Wednesday, which will be the first of 5 straight games on the road with 4 of them being against the Eastern conference.  A good way to win close games on the road is to shoot well from the free throw line, something Denver has not done all year by shooting just 67% which is 29th in the league!  Another area that could use some cleaning up is turnovers.  Denver is 27th in the league in turnovers per game at 16.4.  Little things make all the difference in close games.  With so many road games ahead, the Nuggets must get back to the basics to survive.  Buckle your seatbelts, ladies and gentleman.  It could be a bumpy ride!

Golden Nugget Award

With such inconsistency for the Nuggets over the last couple weeks, it has been hard to tell who would be deserving of the award.  If I had to give it to someone, I would give the award to Danilo Gallinari.  Danilo has struggled shooting for most of the year, but he seems to be getting his stroke back from deep as he is 50% his last 3 games.  Besides, he has the best hair on the team!

Looking Ahead

4 of the next 5 games on the road are against playoff contenders.  In my mind, coming out of those games 3-2 would be a success.  Also, the Nuggets must play better defense since they allowed 126 to San Antonio and 122 to the Lakers.

Final Word

Nuggets head coach George Karl had to wear a bandaid on his head for a few games after shutting his car's trunk door on the top of his noggin.  The Nuggets can only hope that their shooting woes from the line will heal just as quickly as Karl's head.
