New Year Relief

The Denver Nuggets ended 2012 with wins against the Lakers and Mavericks and losses to Memphis and to the Clippers on Christmas night.  Denver opened up 2013 with a big win over the L.A. Clippers which ended their 17-game winning streak.  Denver is happy the new year is upon us as they will play 11 of their next 15 games in January at home!  With the win against the Clippers, Denver improved to 18-15 on the season and should benefit from all the home games since they have  lost only one game at the Pepsi Center all year!  Denver's shooting from beyond the arc was great against the Lakers and Mavericks as they were 24-50 combined in those games.  I am a big believer that you live or die by the 3-pointer in today's NBA.  In bad losses to the Clippers and Grizzlies, the Nuggets shot only a combined 6-29 from deep.  While the Nuggets didn't shoot particularly well against the Clippers last night, L.A. was only 5-29 and only scored 78 points in the whole game while they average 101.6 points per game on the season.  Corey Brewer was 6-7 from three against the Lakers and Gallinari was 7-11 against Dallas while going on to score a career-high 39 points!  Kenneth Faried continues to be a rebound machine with 18 boards in Dallas and 15 against the Lakers.  When Brewer and Gallinari are hitting threes, and Faried puts up a double-double like he has in 7 of the last 10 games, the Nuggets are tough to beat.

Golden Nugget Award

The first Golden Nugget Award of the year goes to Danilo Gallinari!  Why is it that every time he makes a great move or shot I want to scream out "Mama mia!"?  He appears to be getting his stroke back and Denver will need his shooting to be consistent this season.

Looking Ahead

Lots. Of. Home games.  That's what's on the horizon for the Nuggets.  If you saw my Christmas predictions, you will know those did not go as planned because I went 2-3.  I am not afraid to make another prediction since I think the Nuggets can win at least 9 of their next 14 games.  In the next week Denver will take on Minnesota at home, Utah at home, at L.A. to play the Lakers, and then come home to face the Magic.  Andre Miller will continue to start at point guard while Ty Lawson is out with an Achilles injury.  Miller put up 12 points and 12 assists last night in 41 minutes!

Final Word

Don't get used to JaVale McGee hitting 3-pointers, but as for his Betty Crocker impersonation after his buzzer-beater, that was "finger-lickin" good!
